the basics
full name ♦ Mason Charles DuBois nicknames ♦ Mace' age ♦ Twenty birthday ♦ December 15th, 1998 occupation ♦ Resident hooligan of Monroeville school ♦ Monroeville Hospital species ♦ skinwalker ability/power ♦ skinwalker how the ability works ♦ Mason is a skinwalker which means he can turn into any person at will. He has to have seen the person at least once in order to change himself. Depending on how much detail he wants to go into with them, will depend on how long he is able to hold the face. If he has extreme focus, he can take everything about them. Their fingerprints, their knowledge, their personal skills. When he is able to change back, he is usually exhausted and violently ill.
If he doesn't need all of the details like skills, fingerprints, or knowledge, then he can hold the form for much longer. If Mason takes on an extremely physically different form, he will usually be sore or nauseous when he turns back. For example if someone is significantly taller than he is, he might have sore knees for a while after.
Being able to physically touch a person helps him be able to keep a form for longer with less physical side effects from it, but he is able to take a form from sight only. Mason has a scar on his right shoulder from a gunshot when he was sixteen, no matter what form he takes, he is unable to change that scar on his shoulder. gender ♦ Male? Most of the time? He ends up feeling like a freak for stealing their bodies, and people generally get weird feelings when Mason suddenly knows their darkest secrets and fears. He tries to make light of it by telling people that they were just too much sexy for him to resist, but he knows that he has almost no control over his abilities and how dangerous they are. The DuBois family had the largest collection of skinwalkers in the South and use it for nefarious means. Cliff and Camilla DuBois trained their children from a young age to use their skinwalker abilities to become as believable as possible for others. Camilla and Cliff would teach them how to take on abilities quickly, and completely. They would teach them how to change their appearance, their fingerprints, even how to tap into memories as a way of breaking into safes and help rob banks. They traveled throughout Texas, the three sons and parents helping them.
When Mason was nine, he helped with his first robbery. He and his older brother took the identities of bank tellers and were able to walk right to the vaults, open with their fingerprints, and take as much money as they could stuff in their pockets. On the way out, Mason's form started to shift back, by the time he was back with his parents, his whole self shifted back, and Mason vomited outside of the car window. Cliff and Camilla promised that it would get easier. They traveled throughout Texas, each time Mason getting stronger in his abilities.
When he was sixteen, Mason and his brothers were robbing a bank in New Orleans. The family had been there for a few days, settling into the area. While they were cleaning out the vault, a security guard caught them. The guard attempted to shoot one of them, aiming at the youngest DuBois child. Mason pushed him aside and took the shot in his shoulder. His brothers escaped, leaving Mason behind. Mason was arrested and sat in a holding cell for four hours before a representative from Monroeville Hospital showed up. They took custody of Mason and brought him to the facility. He was considered a threat to the secrecy of their world, and placed in a new kind of cell.
Mason has spent three years inside of Monroeville Hospital, refusing to name his siblings as part of the crime circle. His brothers visit occasionally, his parents can't stomach the sight of him trapped inside. Mason figures he could try to make the best of things, and that if he's going to be stuck in the hospital, he can at least have a lot of fun with it.
